India Trek: Rupin Pass

Day 1: New Delhi
Arrive in New Delhi late evening, and drive to Mussoorie (about seven hours) a lovely hill station, which gives you your first views of the snow covered peaks. Upon arrival, check in at guesthouse, rest and have a late breakfast or early lunch. The day is yours to unwind and acclimate to your new surroundings. Yoga class will be held in the afternoon before dinner.

Village Life

Dhoni Temple

Day 2: Mussoorie (1,921m/6,320ft)
Morning yoga at 6:30 before breakfast
Optional walking tour to Cloud's End or Everest House. Return to Mussoorie by motor transport after lunch.

Day 3: Netwar/Dhoni (1,805m/5,939ft)
Morning yoga at 6:30 before breakfast
We will drive 146km (7 hrs) mostly along the holy Yamuna River before crossing over at Naugaon on the way to Netwar. From here we will trek 7km (2.5 hrs) to the charming Village of Doni, which has an ancestral home that has survived almost four centuries. The age and uniqueness of this village is clearly reflected in the architecture of the houses and temples, all with intricate wood carvings and slate roofs.

Day 4: Doni
Morning yoga at 6:30 before breakfast
Spend the day exploring the village and taking a dip in the nearby stream.

Day 5: Gosangu/Riverside camp (1,955m/6,432ft)
Morning yoga at 6:30 before breakfast
Trek 17km (6 hrs) along the edge of the forest above the Rupin River, eventually descending to trek along the river's edge.

Day 6: Jakha (2,685m/8,834ft)
Morning yoga at 6:30 before breakfast
This 17km (7 hrs) trek starts gradually and builds up into a steep ascent to Jaskun. We descend only to start climbing again finally reaching Jakha (the highest village in the valley)! Know that the day will be tiring and enjoy the beautiful scenery and the people.

Day 7: Below waterfall camp (3,480m/11,449ft)
Morning yoga at 6:30 before breakfast
Trek 18km (7 hrs) through pine and maple forest and then descend to walk along the banks of the Rupin River. The valley gives a peaceful feeling, with the waterfall at its center and wildflowers all around.

Day 8: Above waterfall camp (4,260m/14,015ft)
Morning yoga at 6:30 before breakfast
This short but steep trek 10km (3 hrs) takes us across a glacier below the Rupin falls, followed by a steep ascent towards the rocky cliffs before reaching the flower covered meadows at the top. We proceed a little further from here to camp below the pass, which gives awe inspiring views of the glaciers and snow covered fields all around.

Day 9: Rupin Pass (4,540m/14,937ft)/Shangla Kanda (3,285m/10,808ft)
Morning yoga at 6:30 before breakfast
This 18km trek takes us up to the pass where we will have unobstructed views of the entire Kinnaur Kailash Range, here we will spend some time taking it all in. Our descent is steady and takes us to grazing meadows and then to the summer fields of Shangla Village.

Day 10: Shangla (2,625m/8,636ft)
Morning yoga at 6:30 before breakfast
This short 10km (2-3 hrs) trek winds down from the fields of Kanda through a forest of oak, deodar (pine) and blue pine. Across the Baspa River Shangla appears almost out of nowhere giving you a bit of a start, as the nature journey ends and you start walking through a bazaar!

Day 11: Shangla
Morning yoga at 6:30 before breakfast
Spend a relaxing day around Shangla before the three day drive back to Mussoorie.

Day 12: Sarahan (2,425m/7,978ft)
Morning yoga at 6:30 before breakfast
Drive 87km (4 hrs) along the banks of the Sutlej River to Sarahan. There is a three storey Bhima Kali Temple here that is more than two centuries old, making this an interesting place to stop for the night!

Day 13: Shimla
Morning yoga at 6:30 before breakfast
Drive 156km (6 hrs) to the former summer capital of the British Raj, now a popular hill resort and the capital of Himachal Pradesh.

Day 14: Mussoorie
Morning yoga at 6:30 before breakfast
Pack up and depart by 9:00 for the 200km (8 hrs) drive back to Mussoorie. Today we make our way back to Garhwal from Himachal.

Day 15: Mussoorie
Morning yoga at 6:30 before breakfast
This is a rest day, which leaves plenty of time to walk around town and purchase any last minute gifts for friends and family back home.

Shangla Kandha

Day 16: Mussoorie
Morning yoga at 6:30 before breakfast
Spend the day relaxing and getting things together for your return. This evening we will spend celebrating the end of our journey.

Day 17: New Delhi
Morning yoga at 6:30 before breakfast
We will say our goodbyes and depart for Delhi. Most flights leave between midnight and 2:00AM, so you can rest for a while at the Radisson Hotel and wash up before going to the airport or spend the night, depending upon your travel plans.


Cost per person: US $4,250 based on a 4-person group, US $3,750 based on a 6-person group.

Price Includes: daily yoga instruction, roundtrip ground transportation from Delhi, accommodations and meals while not in Delhi; and equipment such as: two-person tents, dining tent, foam mats, stools and all cooking and kitchen gear; all trekking expenses, support crew and sightseeing within the tour program; professional guides and escorts throughout the trip; all admissions and special service charges as per itinerary.

Price Excludes: international flight and airport taxes; visa and passport fees; medical and trip cancellation insurance; accommodation while in Delhi; any personal expenses such as: laundry, phone calls, alcoholic beverages, gratuity for our crew and any personal medical expenses; personal camping gear such as: sleeping bags, sleeping pads etc. are not included.
